The Xanctsu Pack
The only pack native to Xanctsu Island. The wolves of the island had never reached a stable state in their population; or at least, they hadn't once the island became known as a good hunting site. The wolves were hunted at times, or merely killed for coming too close to a human establishment. It wasn't until the late 1960s that killing wolves became illegal, but the island's population never truly recovered.

Only a handful of wolves, about 10-15, remained on the island at that time, and they formed a pack under the leadership of Nasha. Nasha was seen as a surrogate mother to a young wolf, Flynn, who eventually stepped up as alpha along with a she-wolf named Moneen when Nasha finally passed on due to old age. In order to take up the rank of alpha, however, Flynn had to overcome one obstacle: a tagged wolf, Desper, who saw it as his chance to dominate a pack which clearly belonged to the native wolves. Flynn succeeded, and tried to continue to lead the pack as Nasha had.

The wolves of the Xanctsu Pack were not bothered by the absence or presence of the tags. They had co-existed with humans for many years and saw them as another creature that, like the bear or the cougar, was to be respected as a predator. They had a comfortable relationship with all the other packs of the island, as they had never infringed on other packs' feuds. They were open minded and tolerant, though as things evolve it grew harder for this youth-run pack to remain true to their roots. Flynn and his pack suffered many dear losses, and the alpha male eventually literally died of a broken heart.

That was the end of the Xanctsu Pack.
